Will Kate return for Wimbledon? Officials are hopeful that the princess will give prizes

Officials stated they were ‘hopeful’ that the Princess of Wales would visit Wimbledon this year and give trophies to the champions.

Debbie Jevans, Chair of the All England Club, stated that they would give Kate ‘as much flexibility as possible’ as she continues cancer treatment, including delaying the search for a replacement.

The princess, who is an avid player herself, has been a patron of the AELTC since 2016.

She traditionally delivers the trophies each year and attends numerous matches throughout the tournament.

She is currently unavailable for formal tasks due to her ongoing prophylactic chemotherapy treatment after being diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer earlier this year.

However, she did attend Trooping the Colour two weeks ago and stated in a statement that, while she was not ready to return to full-time work, she intended to participate in ‘a few public engagements throughout the summer’.

Kensington Palace has stated that they will not disclose anything until much closer to the time due to the uncertainty surrounding her treatment.Speaking about this year’s world-renowned championships, which begin on Monday,

Ms Jevans told Telegraph Sport: ‘We’re hoping that the Princess of Wales will be able to deliver the trophies as the Club’s patron, but her health and recuperation come first. We’re not sure what we don’t know. All we’ve stated is that we’ll collaborate with her and offer her as much flexibility as possible.
