There are ‘deep background discussions’ regarding a sequel to Cocaine Bear, according to Elizabeth Banks
According to Elizabeth Banks, there might be more drunken animals on the big screen in the future.
Ahead of the release of her most recent movie, Skincare, the 50-year-old actor-director revealed to PEOPLE that discussions are in progress on a possible follow-up to her 2023 feature Cocaine Bear.
The horror-comedy’s director, Banks, says, “I know there are deep background discussions about what something could be in that realm.” “Although I am open to the idea, of course, I am not currently involved in a plan to bring more cocaine-animal movies to the screen.”
Keri Russell, Alden Ehrenreich, Margo Martindale, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, O’Shea Jackson Jr., and the late Ray Liotta appeared in Cocaine Bear.
It sensationalized the true story of a black bear that purportedly ate up to forty pounds of cocaine when a drug smuggler dumped a duffel bag of the drug out of an aircraft over rural Georgia in 1985.
The film chronicles the hikers, paramedics, and troubled kids who cross the bear’s path throughout its horrifying, drugged-out rampage.
Banks explains, “I love those characters and I made sure that just a couple stayed alive so that we could follow them somewhere.” “We’ll observe the situation.”
When word leaked out earlier this summer about a team of marine biologists discovering high concentrations of cocaine in a group of Brazilian sharpnose sharks near Rio de Janeiro, some fans speculated that the alarming discovery would serve as the premise for a spin-off movie.
Despite claiming not to be actively working on any such project, Banks admits to having noticed “all of the cocaine shark memes going around.”
Regarding a potential Cocaine Shark film, Banks states, “I think it would have to be its own storyline.”The term “cocaine shark” has previously gained popularity, and Banks has responded to inquiries for a spin-off centered on sharks.
The actress told PEOPLE that she was definitely open to the idea for a movie “if there’s a great story” after it was announced in early 2023 that three tons of cocaine that had been floating in the Pacific Ocean had been discovered by New Zealand authorities.
“Jaws with cocaine, I don’t see how that loses,” she continued. Banks, Lewis Pullman, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, and Nathan Fillion appear in the film Skincare, which opens in cinemas on August 16.
