Tori Spelling responded to the passing of Shannen Doherty, a costar from Beverly Hills, 90210, and a lifelong friend.
On Sunday, July 14, Spelling, 51, posted on social media stating that she was still assimilating the news. On Saturday, July 13, Doherty passed away at the age of 53 after a protracted fight with cancer.
In an Instagram Story, Spelling said, “I don’t have outward words yet,” beside a selfie of herself and Doherty in which Spelling rested her head on her friend’s shoulder. “What matters is that WE were aware of it.”
Alongside Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh in the 1990s TV series, Spelling played Donna Martin. The message also featured four and a half rows of broken heart emojis.
A sprinkling of gold sparkles adorned the top line of broken hearts.
The Charmed alum Doherty passed suddenly, according to a statement released on Saturday by his publicist Leslie Sloane to Us Weekly.
“Actress Shannen Doherty passed away, and I confirm this with heavy heart. After battling the illness for many years, she lost her fight with cancer on Saturday, July 13, according to the statement.

Spelling’s response comes after another 90210 cast member Jennie Garth paid homage to Doherty, who was first given a stage IV breast cancer diagnosis in 2015.
With two old pictures of the ladies from the TV show’s set, 52-year-old Garth posted on Instagram, saying, “I am still processing my tremendous grief over the loss of my long time friend Shannen.” “I have frequently referred to this woman as one of the strongest individuals I have ever encountered.
