Ben Affleck’s misery at the 2023 Grammys became a favorite meme on Twitter, but a source told Entertainment Tonight that, while Ben was not having the best time, it was only because he was feeling off.
“Jen [Lopez, Ben’s wife] and Ben had a fun date night out at the Grammys,” the source explained. “He wanted to go and show his support for Jen, but he wasn’t himself.”
They still had a good night, according to the source, and J.Lo was understanding: “Jen had a great time and wanted Ben to be excited to be there, but she understood where he was coming from.
Jen knows Ben is a wonderful husband, and they made an effort to spend the evening together.”
According to the source, J.Lo understands that big events like the Grammys aren’t really her husband’s natural environment: “[She] knows how supportive Ben is toward her and her work but also understands that Ben is more of a homebody and it isn’t his thing to be out at events all the time.”
J.Lo, for her part, shared a video of herself and Ben from Grammys night, attempting to quell internet speculation that their evening wasn’t a happy one. “It’s always the best time with my love, my husband,” she said.
J.Lo attended the Grammys as a presenter. Throughout the ceremony, the camera cut to her and Ben, where she appeared happy and he appeared sad.
Twitter reactions ranged from introverts sympathizing with Ben to some joking that his sad expression was very on-brand for him, given his Sad Affleck meme history.
