Riley Keough explains what REALLY killed her mother Lisa Marie Presley at just 54 years old
Riley Keough has disclosed the reason for her mother Lisa Marie Presley’s death, which occurred two years ago at the age of 54.
On January 12, 2023, Lisa Marie went into cardiac arrest at her Calabasas home. She was just 54 years old when she passed away later that day, and an autopsy determined that her cause of death was a “small bowel obstruction” after a recent bariatric procedure.

The 35-year-old American actress Keough, who is the daughter of Danny and Lisa Marie Keough, did, however, share her belief regarding the real reason behind her mother’s passing. In a recent interview with People, Keough revealed that her mother’s actual cause of death was a shattered heart, following the suicide of her brother Benjamin in 2020 at the young age of 27.
The 35-year-old Keough stated, “After Ben passed away, my mom did her best to find strength for me and my younger sisters, but we knew how much pain she was in.”
“We all knew my mom died of a broken heart, but she passed away physically from the aftereffects of her surgery,” the woman remarked.
Riley has been on a press trip to promote her memoir, From Here to the Great Unknown, which she co-wrote with her mother before she passed away. The book will be released on October 8.

After Riley revealed in her memoir that Lisa Marie and she began to move on by helping others, Lisa Marie acknowledged in 2022 that she would never truly “move on” from the murder of her son.
“I didn’t kill myself last night because of what you said it would do to my family and those that are left behind,” a young person wrote Riley in a letter. Thus, I’m grateful. That was beneficial to me.

That reminded me of something,” Lisa Marie said in her memoir.
Riley continued, describing the 2016 Nick Cave documentary One More Time With Feeling as “a really beautiful portrayal of grief” that was also very helpful.
Riley had informed Lisa Marie that she would assist with writing the memoir, but she only listened to her mother’s recorded messages following her death in January 2023.
She said that writing about her brother’s passing and her mother’s addiction was really tough. And, of course, her own demise.
Riley acknowledges, however, that her mother’s tale is more than “just about loss.”
“I hope that people can relate to a very human experience of love, heartbreak, loss, addiction, and family in an extraordinary circumstance,” adds Keough.
“[My mom] wanted to write a book to help people know they’re not alone in the world by reading her story and being able to relate to her,” she continued.

Her only goal in writing this book was to connect with others. That’s mine then,’ Keough remarked. At the age of 27, Benjamin Keough shot himself in the family mansion in July 2020 following a fight with his girlfriend.
According to an autopsy report, he was under the influence of alcohol and cocaine at the time.
Six months prior to his death, he had attempted suicide. Three weeks later, he was in treatment. Keough had made three prior attempts at treatment but had never finished.
