More than 40 years ago, Heather Locklear talks candidly about her one and only date with Tom Cruise
Speaking candidly, Heather Locklear discussed an unexpected date she had more than 40 years ago with Tom Cruise.
The 62-year-old actress talked about how she first met the 62-year-old star of Top Gun and the date they went on when they were just starting out in acting.
She revealed, according to PEOPLE, that they met at an audition somewhere in the 1980s during a panel at 90s Con Florida on Saturday.They went out dancing at Club Lingerie, and Locklear — who admitted in 2013 that she was turned off by his dance moves — recalled that he was ‘really kind’ on their date.
But the self-described “rock and roll girl” thought their respective styles did not mesh well.
We auditioned together for the movie, and I remember thinking, “Oh my god, I’m terrible.” The former cast member of Melrose Place quips, “He’s even worse!”
He was just this little newborn boy, and I felt like I was a little bit older at the time, so he ended up coming over to my place with Sean Penn, she said.
She continued, “And they were just nice, but he was like, ‘Yes ma’am,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, sir.”
The Dynasty star laughed and remarked, “He didn’t quite cut it,” after having previously claimed that they went out together because they were both new to Los Angeles at the time.
She continued by giving more specifics about their first date.
As I’ve mentioned before, he was quite cute. At that time, we went dancing at Club Lingerie.
She also mentioned how she saw some of Cruise’s dance routines and was among the first to view the scene in his 1983 movie Risky Business where he slides on his knees. He did that in real life prior to the film, and I remember dancing along and thinking, “Do you stop dancing if they’re down there?” I exclaimed, “Yay!” But, she said, he was really kind to me.
“Neither of us got that part by the way,” she said, referring to the audition when they first met.
The ‘rock and roll girl’ proceeded to have brief romantic relationships with two rock celebrities. In 1986, she wed Tommy Lee, the drummer and founder of Mötley Crüe. After their divorce in 1993, she wed Richie Sambora, the lead guitarist for Bon Jovi, the following year. They parted ways in 2007. She has a daughter named Ava Sambora, 26, with Sambora.
Cruise has been married and divorced three times in the interim. The first took place from 1987 to 1990 with Mimi Rogers.
Before weddng Katie Holmes in 2006, he was wed to Nicole Kidman in 1990–2001. Along with his adoptive daughter Isabella (now 31) and his adopted son Connor (now 29), he also has a biological daughter named Suri (18) from his marriage to Holmes.
