Mandisa, a American Idol graduate and Grammy winner, di ed aged 47
Mandisa, who appeared on season 5 of “American Idol” and later became a renowned Christian music singer, has died. She was 47.
A representative for the artist confirmed to ABC News that Mandisa was discovered deceased in her home on April 18.

“At this time we do not know the cause of death or any further details,” a spokesperson said. “We ask for your prayers for her family and close knit circle of friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
“American Idol” referred to Mandisa as “an adored icon” on the program and in the music business. “She had become a platinum-selling singer and received multiple Grammy Awards for her songs.
“Her passing has left everyone on the show heartbroken, and we extend our deepest condolences to her family,” said a statement from “American Idol.”

Taylor Hicks, the winner of season 5 of “American Idol,” described Mandisa as “a powerhouse vocalist on our season of Idol, and she graduated to a wonderful career in gospel music.” Even better, she was a force to be reckoned with, and we shall all miss her profoundly,” he said in an Instagram post.
Mandisa, born Mandisa Lynn Hundley, ended ninth on the “American Idol” season, which was won by Taylor Hicks and also included Katharine McPhee, Chris Daughtry, and Kellie Pickler.
