In the first look image from their next movie Unstoppable, Jennifer Lopez gives Jharrel Jerome a gentle kiss on the forehead.
The image from the movie, which was produced by Ben Affleck, Lopez’s purportedly estranged husband, was made public by Amazon MGM Studios on Thursday.
The movie synopsis reads, “Despite losing his right leg at birth, Anthony Robles rises to become an NCAA Division 1 Champion wrestler and ultimately wins a national championship against the school that rejected him, national powerhouse Iowa.”
While competing at Arizona State University in wrestling, Lopez took home a national championship in 2011.
The 55-year-old actress plays Judy, the mother of wrestler Anthony Lopez, in the drama based on fact.
Robles was the project’s producer and filled in for Jerome as his stunt double for the trickier wrestling maneuvers.
His autobiography Unstoppable: From Underdog to Undefeated: How I Became a Champion served as the inspiration for the film.
The actor Bobby Cannavale plays Rick, Robles’ father.
Don Cheadle portrays ASU’s wrestling coach Shawn Charles, while Michael Peña plays Bobby Williams, the coach of high school wrestling.
Robles finished high school with an outstanding 96-0 record.The well-known athlete has completed a full circle by going back to Mesa High School, where he was hired in March 2022 as the head wrestling coach.
He won the PAC-12 three times, was an All-American three times, and was a national champion in 2011.
Jerome, 26, said to Vanity Fair, “I think it’s so special when an actor gets to portray a real-life person, the challenges that come with that and the justice.” Jerome starred in the Emmy-winning series When They See Us.
The individual the actor was going to play on screen was the subject of considerable research for him.
He told the newspaper, “Even before you meet him, you can see the confidence and the fight that he has in him—just by looking at his wrestling videos on YouTube or watching his interviews.”
And then you see that brightness when you meet him, and all you can do is go, “I want to tell your story.”
In September, Unstoppable will make its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
