The abrupt departure of Sean Wilson from Coronation Street has apparently forced the soap opera’s executives to abandon Martin Platt’s comeback plot.
As part of his ex-wife Gail’s departure, the actor was scheduled to return to the character of Martin Platt in October. However, rumors have it that the entire story has been dropped.
The Sun claims that the cast was shocked by Sean’s departure and was not informed of the cause for it.According to a soap opera representative, the actor departed “for personal reasons.” No scenes with Sean will air, and the entire leave storyline for Gail is currently being hastily reworked by executives.
Sean had already filmed episodes with a number of the soap opera’s actors when he returned to Corrie in July to film his first scenes.
According to a source, “everyone has been completely taken aback by his abrupt departure, which has shaken everyone associated with Corrie.” Sean was a huge hit on set and was enjoying his time on the show.
He had taped sequences with a large number of the cast when all of a sudden he was called into head office. Later, word leaked out that he wouldn’t be returning or having his parts aired, but no explanation was given.
The bosses must now develop a new, magical, happy ending for Helen, which is obviously a huge blow, but they are confident they’ll pull it out of the bag and provide fans with something amazing.

In July, it was officially announced that Sean would be playing Martin Platt again as part of Gail’s farewell to the cobbles after fifty years.
Sean remarked, “It was great to be invited back to Coronation Street, to contribute to Helen’s exit story,” as he picked up his first scripts to begin filming.
