I danced on the table for my father! unexpected facts from the life of Madonna

Modern pop culture is unimaginable without an American with Italian roots, Madonna Louise Ciccone, better known as Madonna. She appeared on the scene in 1983 with an album named after herself and showed that a concert could be a real event.

There were many interesting moments in her life that are worth remembering.

Difficult childhood

Madonna was born on August 16, 1958 and was the third child in the family. She was named after her mother, who died of breast cancer five years later. She learned about the diagnosis when she was pregnant with Madonna’s younger sister, and for the sake of the child she refused treatment.

The father of the family got a housekeeper Joan Gustafson and married her two years later, in this marriage two more children were born. “Because I grew up in a large family, they could hear me only if I screamed loudly,” she said. “To get my father’s attention, I would climb on the table and dance.”

Full openness

Madonna was constantly surrounded by brothers and sisters, but she lacked maternal affection. In one interview, she admitted: “Moms teach us good behavior, but mine did not have time to teach me the rules and restrictions … I did not have a loving mother, and I want the whole world to love me.”

As a result, Madonna grew up as a person who does not accept generally accepted rules. At the first Video Music Awards, she appeared in a wedding dress and sang about virginity.

She kissed live with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, released a book of erօtic photographs and an entire music album called Erotica … In general, almost everything that she did in public in the first 20 years of her career destroyed not only music, but also moral principles in society.

Attitude towards religion

Madonna’s behavior contrasted sharply with religious rules, and yet she bore such an impeccable name! As a child, the singer was a zealous Catholic – the father of the family acted as a deacon at the local church on weekends.

And after he remarried, Madonna became disillusioned with religion: “I realized that I don’t need anyone and no one else will dare to break my heart – even God.”

Answering another question about faith, Madonna replied: “I believe in certain rituals, but I do not like rules … Some religions make sex a sin. And I’m trying to teach people that this is not something to be ashamed of.”

In 1997, Madonna became interested in Kabbalistic teachings, but after a few years she did not like it. This was partly due to disagreements with her second husband, director Guy Ritchie. As a result, the singer studied different beliefs, but did not accept any.

Appearance in New York

Madonna received a dance scholarship from the University of Michigan, but her heart was in New York. However, she failed to conquer the city on the first attempt: “He was not the way I imagined him, he did not meet me with open arms.”

She studied with the best teachers and danced better, but it was not the career she dreamed of. The first single Everybody in 1982 did not become a worldwide hit, but reached number three on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. And so a new star was born.

In 1984, journalists asked Madonna what she planned to do next after the success of her first album. The singer modestly replied: “Ruling the world!” A few months later, her new album Like a Virgin hit the top of the world music charts.

Marriage to Sean Penn

Madonna met the young actor in 1984 and on August 16, 1985, her 27th birthday and the day before his 25th, they married in Malibu. Their relationship was not easy, they fought a lot, and friends called them the “poisonous couple” – Poison Penns.

There were suggestions that Penn beat his wife, but she denied everything, and the author of this idea was almost sued.

They divorced in 1989, but later both said more than once that it was true love. None of them, however, made new attempts to be together.

Second marriage

In 1996, Madonna gave birth to a daughter, Lourdes, from partner Carlos Leon, whom she soon broke up with because of an affair with Guy Ritchie.

The singer married him in Scotland in December 2000, a few months after the birth of her son Rocco John.

However, both partners did not feel free in this relationship: Madonna felt that she was in a creative crisis, Richie felt emotional limitations. He admitted that he could no longer openly discuss something with friends and relatives, because everything would later be in the yellow press.

The relationship was getting worse, and even the adoption of the boy David, originally from Malawi, did not help their marriage. In 2008, Madonna and Richie finally divorced, and she paid him $ 75 million.

After the divorce, the singer adopted three more girls from Malawi: Chifundo Mercy James in 2009 and twins Stella and Esther in 2017. She is no longer going to marry, although she changes boyfriends regularly.
