How Serena Williams tried to deposit her first $1 million check

Serena Williams recalled trying to use a drive-thru ATM to deposit her first $1 million cheque from her tennis earnings.

Williams, 42, told presenter Sean Evans on Thursday, July 4th’s Hot Ones show that this is, in fact, a true story. “I never really spent a lot of money,” the former tennis player clarified.

I was taking myself very seriously. What happened to me is unknown to me. I used to take things seriously.

She said, “So I just went to the drive-through, and the guy was like, ‘Uh, I think you need to come inside for this,'” before referring to the experience as one of the many “lessons to learn” in life.

Williams talked about her early career in the interview, saying that she played for the love of the game and frequently forgot about her prize money.

The interview takes place while the host and guest consume chicken wings that get spicier and spicy.

“I never engaged in paid play. Because I loved the sport, I participated. I aspired to excellence. My goal was to triumph. At the time, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted to be the greatest. “All I wanted was to win,” declared the former sportsman.

“My tax advisor would say, ‘You didn’t receive your money,’ and I would reply, ‘Oh, I didn’t receive that one in Zurich, I overlooked that one in Moscow.'”

She went on, “I was just playing to win, and if I didn’t win, I was just not thinking.” “I just wanted to figure out a way to get better and win the next time because I was so angry.”

Williams has retired from professional tennis, but fans can still catch her when she hosts the 2024 ESPYs. Williams and her husband, Alexis Ohanian, have two kids, Olympia, age 6, and Adria, age 11.

Along with Megan Rapinoe, Sue Bird, and Danica Patrick, she is now one of the few women to hold this esteemed position.

“To be hosting the ESPYs, I couldn’t be more excited,” Williams said in a May statement. I’ve wanted to do this for as long as I can remember, so it’s a dream come true for me.

For female athletes, this year has been extraordinary in the sports world. In July, I can’t wait to congratulate everyone on stage.
