From the actress’s missing engagement ring to a surprise Adele cover, here are all the clues that Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson had quietly broken up
Before it was announced on Friday that they had broken up permanently, Chris Martin and Dakota Johnson were among the most stable couples in the celebrity world.
After finding it difficult to match their lives, the 47-year-old singer of Coldplay and the 34-year-old actress of Fifty Shades of Grey announced the cancellation of their engagement.

It’s reported that the couple, who started dating in 2017, have “now accepted the relationship is over – and it’s best to move on.” Despite their well-known private lives and few photos together, there were hints that the pair had broken up.
The hints that the famous couple had called it quits on their long-term romance are all revealed here, courtesy of MailOnline, from Dakota’s missing engagement ring to Chris’s controversial interpretation of the breakup song.
Dakota’s engagement ring is gone.
Dakota was seen last weekend sans her emerald engagement ring, which sparked some doubts. The actress, who formerly shared a home with the frontman of Coldplay, was seen walking her dog in Malibu. The gorgeous diamond was conspicuously absent from the star’s left hand in the photos as she walked outside into the sunshine.
Dakota was also photographed a few weeks prior, in late June, without the ring on her left hand. She posted a picture of her script for the movie DADDIO on Instagram, showing her left hand resting on top of the paper. When a suspicious fan noticed that Dakota was missing the emerald ring from the photo, they asked, “Is she still with the guy from Coldplay?”

Chris playing Adele’s “Break Up” song
Munich is one of the German cities where Coldplay is stopping this week as part of their tour. Days prior to their visit, Adele, another British artist, had performed in the city and had acknowledged Coldplay in her speech.Chris chose to cover an Adele song as part of their performance as a way to return the favor, however his choice of song caused some controversy.
The band decided to play Someone Like You by Adele, an emotional breakup ballad about a past lover who has moved on. The song’s lyrics read, “Never mind, I’ll find someone like you, wish nothing but the best for you, too.”Just hours before word of their breakup leaked out, the song selection sparked speculations about possible infidelity.

The fan who snapped at Chris says he’s “single.”
A month prior to rumors that the couple had gone through a “rocky patch,” a fan asserted that Chris was “single.” Osteoporosis prevented Saundra Glenn, 64, of Luton, from making it to the accessibility box office on Radio 1’s Big Weekend.Saundra posted a selfie with Chris on X, the former Twitter platform, after he kindly provided the fan a lift to the festival.
However, Saundra surprised admirers by revealing in her post that the celebrity was single. The moment Chris Martin @Coldplay spotted me having trouble walking, stopped his car, and gave me a lift, is what she wrote. Amazingly beautiful. Unbelievable that this occurred. What a good-looking man. We also had a good conversation. He enjoys #Luton and is single. Once more, thank you @BBCR1. #BigWeekend #SeeMyLuton.

“Rocky patch” and mutual understanding
It was discovered at the beginning of summer that Dakota and Chris had secretly broken up, but they had since made up and were reportedly still going strong. The former couple apparently had difficult times together, but sources told People that they were now back on their feet.
The pair, each occupied with their own careers, were reported to be ‘going strong’. ‘They’ve had ups and downs, but they’re absolutely back on,’ the insider stated. They were last spotted together in February when on a romantic vacation to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. A few weeks later, in March, it was reported that the couple was “engaged.”
