Exclusive: Scarlett Johansson Says Nine-year-old Rose is “too scared to watch this Movie’

Millions of people around the world love the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Rose Dorothy, Scarlett Johansson’s daughter, is not one of them.

The 39-year-old Black Widow actress disclosed that her 9-year-old daughter Rose is “too scared” to watch her mother’s Marvel films during an interview with PEOPLE for this week’s edition.

Regarding the child she has with her ex-husband, French writer Romain Dauriac, Johansson tells PEOPLE, “She likes that I play Black Widow, but she’s too scared to watch an Avengers movie.”

“She simply says, ‘It’s violent.'” “Oh God, I’m thinking,” Johansson continues.

On the other hand, Rose is eager to see Johansson’s most recent movie, Fly Me to the Moon.

The mother of two says, “I think she’s excited about the hair and makeup mostly.” It’s really enjoyable… She is feminine.”

Along with her husband Colin Jost, the actress is a mother to their 2-year-old boy Cosmo. In a funny moment that occurs halfway through Johannson’s latest film, the forty-two-year-old comedian makes a fleeting appearance.

According to Johansson, Saturday Night Live star Greg Berlanti specifically asked for the role.

“Do you think Colin would want to do…?” he said. Greg and Colin get along well, are both comedy writers, and have several traits that I believe are subtle but significant.

I believe he was genuinely thrilled to have Colin make a little appearance. Johansson responds, “Yeah, I’m sure if you ask him, I’m not going to ask him.”

“We don’t get to work together really ever because… I mean, we’ve worked together as he’s written stuff for me for SNL, but we never get to perform together,” she tells PEOPLE about how much fun it was to act together.

When the comedian from Saturday Night Live made an appearance on an edition of the iHeartPodcast Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi in April, he provided an intimate glimpse into his life with his son.

“One thing that’s really important with [Cosmo] is I take him swimming a lot whenever I can — like pool or ocean,” Jost said. “It’s kind of incredible that at just two years old, he can swim fairly well—almost independently. He’s such a joyful kid, and he’s really brilliant.”

“Although I didn’t always enjoy swimming competitively, I did enjoy being in a pool and being near water all the time. And I want to discuss that with him in a few different ways.”

Now showing in theaters is Fly Me to the Moon.
