Crazy Town’s lead singer Shifty Shellshock will be honored at a “grand” celebration of life service after taking an accidental overdose at the age of 49

Shifty Shellshock passed away tragically on June 24 at the age of 49. His loved ones are organizing a “grand” celebration of life service at Academy LA in his honor.

The singer’s friends and family are gathering to honor his legacy and say their final goodbyes, almost two months after his unintentional death.

Additionally, TMZ confirmed that Pasquale Rotella, the event’s organizer, will have DJ sets by Lady Sinclair, Edski, Trixter, and Graham Funke.

It is anticipated that Shellshock’s collaborators and some of his pals who are graffiti artists would also be performing, with the latter ‘painting murals from scratch.’

The flyer for the event says, “Please join us to celebrate the wonderful and amazing life that brought light into ours, eat and drink, and support one another.”

There is a cap on the number of attendees due to the venue’s size.

“It was shared with close family members and friends first and not posted wide publicly,” according to TMZ.

Howie Hubberman, the manager of Shellshock, told People in June that his client’s death was caused by “a combination of prescription drugs and street purchased drugs.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner reports that the Butterfly hitmaker, whose real name was Seth Binzer, passed away at home in Los Angeles.

Hubberman stated to the publication that “Seth Binzer never was able to reach out on a more successful level to deal with his addictions after struggling with addiction and Crazy Town’s rapid success with Butterfly.”

“Shifty would still be here if we hadn’t all failed in the end, even though we tried.”

The musician “really wanted to get himself fixed,” but “unfortunately no one had the exact tools to do this,” according to Hubberman, who called Binzer “a friend.”

According to the publication, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s officials have not formally disclosed Binzer’s cause of death since they are awaiting toxicology results.

After losing consciousness in 2012, Binzer—who struggled with substance misuse throughout the years—was brought to a hospital and remained in a coma until being released.
The musician recently talked about his struggle “with himself” and being sober.

“I’m a lover than a fighter… but the one I need to love more, instead of fight with, is myself… Mr shifty true love #Sober, alive, and grateful,” he said on Instagram eight weeks ago.

Binzer battled drug addiction for a long time and was featured on the reality TV shows Sober House 1 and 2, as well as Celebrity Rehab 1 and 2.

Three sons from three different partnerships survive him.

Binzer and his ex-wife Melissa Clark have a kid named Halo.

After six years of separation, Melissa filed for divorce in 2011. The two were married in 2002. Later on, he dated Tracy, and the two of them had a son named Gage.

Phoenix is the child that Binzer and Jasmine Lennard share. The two started dating in 2010. After his incarceration in 2012, their relationship came to an end.

Butterfly, a band staple from the aughts, peaked at number one in various countries, including Austria, Denmark, and Norway, and topped the Billboard Hot 100 for two weeks.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are listed as songwriters for this song because it samples their 1989 album Mother’s Milk’s Pretty Little Ditty.

The Gift of Game, their debut album, was sold in excess of 1.5 million copies. They did, however, split up after their 2002 follow-up, Darkhorse, was a commercial failure.

They got back together in 2007 and returned to performing in 2009. 2015 saw the release of The Brimstone Sluggers, their third album.

Mazur, better known by his stage name Epic, left the band in January 2017; the same April, Rick Dixon, Nick Diiorio, and Kevin Kapler all announced their departures.

Binzer proceeded to append a ‘X’ to the band’s name, citing its usage as a symbol by gangs to represent recently conquered territory.

A moose was struck by Crazy Town’s tour van in November 2019 in Ontario, Canada. Members of the band, including Binzer, were taken to the hospital for wounds and bruises.

In addition to his solo career, Binzer collaborated with British musician and producer Paul Oakenfold to provide the vocals for his 2002 hit song Starry Eyed Surprise.

Happy Love Sick, his debut solo album, was released in 2004. In 2010, he also started Shifty and The Big Shots.

Binzer frequently found himself in legal problems due to his involvement in attempted burglaries, drug sales, and recreational drug use.

Although Binzer and Jasmine Lennard were romantically involved in 2010, the following year, police were called to a domestic disturbance involving the two.

After being detained for driving while intoxicated in Los Angeles in 2022, he began dating Punky Brewster actress Soleil Moon Frye, 47.

Following the news of his untimely death, supporters on X (previously Twitter) showered the platform with tributes.

They expressed feelings like “RIP to Shifty Shellshock of Crazy Town” and “Rip shifty shellshock.” I’m hoping he’s at peace. and when I was younger, “Slide Along Side by Shifty Shellshock was constantly on my playlist.”

Other tributes were, “RIP Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock.”

There’s no doubting that Butterfly was a huge hit’; additionally, they expressed their “deep sadness over the passing of Crazy Town’s Shifty Shellshock.” Ironically, one of my all-time favorite songs is Butterfly.
