Celebrity tributes to Kris Kristofferson, who passed away at the age of 88, were spearheaded by Barbra Streisand and Dolly Parton, with Reba McEntire and Melissa Etheridge also paying their respects
After it was revealed that Kris Kristofferson had passed away at the age of 88, Barbra Streisand and Dolly Parton spearheaded the heartfelt celebrity tributes to him.
The musician and actor passed suddenly over the weekend at his Maui home, as his family confirmed in a statement on Sunday.
In remembrance of her co-star in the movie A Star Is Born, Streisand, 82, posted a vintage picture of the record cover, which was released in 1976 along with the movie, as well as a more recent snapshot of her and the actor and country singer-songwriter performing together.She wrote, “The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A.” next to the picture. He was extraordinary, I knew that.

“He looked like the ideal fit for a script I was developing, which turned into A Star Is Born, as he was barefoot and strumming his guitar.”Kris and I performed the song “Evergreen,” which I had composed just for the movie’s central love theme.
In 2019, during my most recent performance in London’s Hyde Park, I invited Kris to come on stage with me to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, “Lost Inside Of You.” He was charming as ever, and he received a flurry of applause from the audience. Seeing him get the appreciation and affection he so rightly deserved was a delight.
She wished the family of Kristofferson her sincere sympathies at the end of her post.

In the 1976 A Star Is Born adaptation, Kristofferson as troubled musician John Norman Howard, alongside Streisand. For his role in the movie, he was awarded a Golden Globe in 1977.

She ended by saying, “I will always love you, Dolly,” and signed it with an image of a butterfly.
Longtime friends Dolly and Kris worked together on many duets, such as the well-known songs Put It Off Until Tomorrow and From Here to the Moon and Back.
Together with Willie Nelson and Brenda Lee, the two recorded a compilation CD titled The Winning Hand in 1982.
Later on, the record served as the basis for a television program hosted by Johnny Cash in 1985 and titled The Winning Hand.
Dolly posted a vintage video of herself and Kristofferson singing “Ping Pong” from The Winning Hand on Facebook on September 19.

On Sunday, the actor and singer’s family posted a statement on his verified Instagram profile confirming the news.
His family released a statement saying, “It is with a heavy heart that we share the news our husband, father, and grandfather, Kris Kristofferson, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28 at home.”
“Our time with him is truly blessed,” the family statement continued.
They said, “Thank you for loving him for all these years, and know that he’s smiling down at us all when you see a rainbow.”
