Beyoncé Describes Her Absence from the Public Eye Throughout the Years: “I Work at My Own Speed”

The “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer discussed her rise to become one of music’s most mysterious performers in an interview with GQ.

Beyoncé has established herself as one of the most elusive musicians.

The 32-time Grammy winner, who doesn’t often do interviews, discussed her decision to step away from the spotlight between promotional cycles for new projects in an interview with GQ for the magazine’s most recent cover story.

“I create at my own pace, on things that I hope will touch other people,” stated Beyoncé, 43. “I want people to go within and accept their own creativity, power, and tenacity via the work I do.

The “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer stated to the source that her main priorities when working on her many artistic endeavors are “storytelling, growth, and quality.” “I’m not focused on perfectionism,” Beyoncé continued. “I focus on evolution, innovation, and shifting perception.”

Her most recent album and the recently released Sir Davis whisky are no different. “Working on the music for Cowboy Carter and launching this exciting new project [feels] nothing like prison, nor a burden,” she remarked.

Actually, I only work on things that provide me freedom. Beyoncé went on, “Fame may sometimes feel like a jail. “So, when you don’t see me on red carpets, and when I disappear until I have art to share, that’s why.”

The former member of Destiny’s Child has not published a new solo album since 2016’s Lemonade until 2022’s Renaissance, the record that came out before 2024’s Cowboy Carter in an ongoing trilogy.

Fans weren’t sure when they’d get a proper Beyoncé album, but in the interim, she kept them entertained with 2018’s Everything Is Love, a collaboration with husband JAY-Z, and 2019’s extremely collaborative soundtrack album The Lion King: The Gift.

She has now disclosed additional details regarding the procedure. “I began working as Cowboy Carter over five years ago. “’16 Carriages’ lyrics, which mention my age, pay close attention to them,” she remarked, alluding to the line “It’s been thirty-eight summers, and I’m not in my bed.”

In a press statement released in conjunction with the country project, Beyoncé previously disclosed that she began working on Cowboy Carter before to Renaissance.

“It’s been really great to have the time and the grace to be able to take my time with it,” she remarked. “I had originally planned to release ‘Cowboy Carter’ first, but the world was too heavy after the pandemic. Our desire was to dance. It was right that we danced. But I had to have faith in God’s schedule.”
