After preventing Kanye West’s album from penetrating number one, Taylor Swift ostensibly renames the alleged Kim Kardashian song in his honor
When the live version of Taylor Swift’s song “thanK you aIMee” was released in June, she subtly changed the song’s title to “thank You aimEe.” For Swifties, this small change meant a lot.
Swift appeared to poke fun at the Chicago rapper just a few days after the 14-time Grammy winner’s The Tortured Poets Department achieved its 14th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 list, preventing Ye (a.k.a. Kanye West) and Ty Dolla $ign’s joint album Vultures 2 from reaching the top spot.
On Thursday, August 15, Swift, 34, shared her live rendition of the song “thank You aimEe” and “Mean,” which she had combined during her June 22 Eras Tour performance.
The song, which is about a bully who is thought to be Kim Kardashian, had its capital letters changed to spell out KIM in the original title.
Now, the title’s capital letters, “thank You aimEe,” spell out YE, ostensibly signaling the culmination of their long-running conflict.
Swift sings, “‘F— you, Aimee,’ to the night sky, as the blood was gushing / But I can’t forget the way you made me heal,” in the Tortured Poets song. “All that time you were throwing punches, I was building something.”
Ye not only cut off Swift during her 2009 MTV Video Music Awards acceptance speech, but he also included the following lines in his 2016 song “Famous”:
“I think Taylor and I might still be having sex. Why? I brought fame to that b—-. Then he said she gave the lyrics her blessing. Swift’s agent refuted claims that she was informed of the line “I made that b—- famous.” Kardashian stood with Ye during that conflict.
Swift has never said who “thanK you aIMee” (or “thank You aimEe”) is about, but fans soon identified Kardashian as the “KIM” and her ex-husband as the “YE.”
On X (previously Twitter), someone posted, “We love a shady queen.” Another person wrote, “Taylor changing the letters in thank you aimee from ‘Kim’ to ‘Ye’ is a VERY rep coded thing for her to do🐍.”
The song’s new title was added while Swifties anxiously await the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), her 2017 album remastered following the breakup with the former pair.
