A year after shocking fans with his ‘rotting’ teeth, Johnny Depp reveals a significant dental makeover
Johnny Depp is back to smiling.
The 61-year-old Oscar-nominated actor looked like he had extensive dental surgery done in a new video that went viral on Instagram and showed him visiting a club in the Bahamas.
A bartender going by the handle @killerbartender, Rap Rap Zoilo, posted a video to Instagram on Thursday in which Depp could be seen grinning and showing off his much healthier teeth than in previous appearances that received criticism from followers.
Rap Rap Zoilo related a cordial conversation he had with the actor at Lorraine’s Cafe in the Bahamas’ Exuma region in the video.
“Jacksparrow meets the killerbartender of Exuma Bahamas… once in a lifetime moments with Mr. Johnny Depp,” the bartender wrote as the caption for the photo.
In the video, the Pirates of Caribbean star acknowledged a portrait of himself as Captain Jack Sparrow, greeted patrons, and went behind the bar to combine a drink with the bartender.
Fans of the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory star praised his refreshed appearance following what appeared to be dental work on the post’s adjacent comment thread.
“He appears so content!” One enthusiast exclaimed, “And healthy and LOOK he got his teeth fixed!”
“Now, no one can say anything negative about @johnnydepp’s teeth… he has a beautiful mouth, a very healthy appearance,” another person commented.
“The pirate teeth are gone… pearly whites look beautiful,” exclaimed one fan, while “Johnny Depp has new teeth!” observed another.
“Yes, someone did some wonderful work on his teeth,” one user commented. That grin is even more stunning! But in my opinion, it was earlier. I cherish his heart.
“I would still love him even if he lost all of his teeth—I was just worried that he might lose a few before!”
When Depp was photographed on the red carpet at the May 2023 Cannes Film Festival to promote his movie Jeanne du Barry, questions about his teeth health were raised.
In spite of several dental flaws, such as discolored and damaged teeth, Depp was seen grinning and drawing attention to himself. Some even went so far as to call Depp’s teeth “rotting.”
Page Six noted that at the time, one X/Twitter user commented, “Johnny Depp’s teeth are literally ROTTING,” while another remarked it looked like someone had “grabbed his teeth and painted them black.”
Depp previously discussed his tooth health almost thirty years ago, stating in 1995 to Premiere magazine that by the time he was thirty-one, he had “loads of cavities.”
“I underwent an incomplete root canal eight years ago. He remarked at the time, “It’s like a rotten little stub.” ‘I get so annoyed when I see people with flawless teeth. I’d much sooner ingest a tick than deal with it.
According to the story at the time, Depp liked to drink merlot wine and smoke cigarettes, which may have affected the way his teeth looked.
